Mn/DOT responds to legislative report on the I-35W bridge collapse

June 24, 2008

The Minnesota Department of Transportation has responded to the Investigative Report to the Joint Committee to Investigate the collapse of the Interstate 35W Bridge.

In a letter dated June 19, 2008, Transportation Commissioner Tom Sorel told Sen. Steve Murphy and Rep. Bernie Lieder that Mn/DOT agrees with the committee's position that it is premature to draw any conclusions about the bridge collapse.

"Until the NTSB work is complete, we do not know whether any of the concerns addressed in this report are related to the actual cause of the collapse, or even a contributing cause," he said.
